what

Schnydärlini, there’s plenty to discover at our member businesses. We just need young people to come and take a look. Our members advertise their own apprenticeships. As an association, we want to get young people excited about skilled trades and encourage them to try a work experience placement. We also want to bring parents and our own people on board. They should see the opportunities our professions offer. And while you’re at it, feel free to leave a few old classroom clichés behind.

how

For suissetec Oberwallis, we developed a positioning centred on skilled trades and the people behind them. ‘D’stolzu Oberwalliser Handwärcher’ — ‘The proud craftspeople of Upper Valais’ — brings the individual trades together. The strategy starts with work experience: getting involved helps young people discover their abilities and get to know a business. That experience can then spark an interest in an apprenticeship. We created a brand identity with bright yellow, black and bold typography. Animated stick figures and cheeky lines in Valais dialect speak to young people on Snapchat, TikTok and Instagram. The communication for parents and the industry tells personal stories. In photo shoots, we portrayed tradespeople holding their childhood photographs. Once a ‘Lüsbüäb’, a little rascal, now a managing director: the portraits show how little early labels say about someone’s future. Social media videos offer further glimpses of everyday work and address prejudices about skilled trades. On schnuppru.ch, information about professions, a quiz and a search for businesses offering work experience help young people take the next step. Branded merchandise, construction site banners and vehicle graphics bring the identity into the industry’s everyday life too.

wow

Skilled trades in Upper Valais now have a shared identity that puts their people centre stage. Young people can get curious, discover professions and find a business where they can try one out. Parents see the paths open to their children, and the industry shows what it is proud of. From the first stick figure in the feed to meeting the team at a business, everything leads to one simple invitation: come along and give it a try.
